Dreamstate SF 2017 and the LAST PHORIA SHOW AT RUBY SKYE

Brace yourself, Dreamers, because Dreamstate is on the horizon. Some Americans will be spending their Memorial Day weekend drinking a chill beer and BBQ’ing with their immediate families, saluting the fallen soldiers that have given up their lives for our freedom. However, for some of us in San Francisco, we’ll be honoring those with our extended Trance Families at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium on Saturday and Sunday.

On Saturday, fans will hear from the likes of Ben Nicky, Liquid Ace (Liquid Soul & Ace Ventura), Markus Schulz Presents Dakota, Menno De Jong, Paul Oakenfold presents Generations, Paul Van Dyk, Purenrg (Solarstone & Giuseppe Ottaviani) and Ruben De Ronde. Hopefully, that powerhouse of a lineup doesn’t burn you out because Astrix, Binary Finary, Bryan Kearney, Ferry Corsten, Fleming & Lawrence, Gareth Emery, John O’Callaghan and Vini Vici will be closing out Sunday.

It’s honestly hard to say who I am most excited for.

After missing his EDC set last year, Ben Nicky is one of the DJs that I am most thrilled to see on the opening night. The Englishman will be making his way from Chicago to The Bay to astonish us with his energetic style. If you enjoyed his set last year or like banging your head to his Headf**k Radio, then you have to check him out. Make sure your trance-pants are on tight enough, so they don’t slip off while you’re jumping away.

I know this is cheesy, but I am excited for Gareth Emery on Sunday. Yes, yes, yes, I know there are many DJs on this day that are just as good or, if not, better than someone whom I’ve seen many times before. However, there’s something about closing out a trance festival with a man who knows how to put together a perfect combination of uplifting melodies and touching lyrics. For us who have listened to his single “Saving Light” (a collaboration with Standerwick featuring Haliene) on repeat knows that it just feels sooooooo gooooood. If closing out another festival with Emery makes me a basic bro, then I will wear my tank top and indoor stunna shades with pride. #PLUR.

Of course, I would be committing a sin if I don’t mention how EXCITED I am to see Markus Schulz presents Dakota. For those of you who don’t know, Dakota is his alias for the darker, more techno side of electronic music. Read more about his return to this side of music with his interview on Dreamstate USA and his upcoming The Nine Skies project where he explores the “nine steps we go through in our quest for enlightenment.”

Schulz has some encouraging words for us faithful as he prepares for the first show for us in SF: “It’s not just music or a concert; it’s a whole audiovisual art show. It’s one of the most challenging things I’ve ever done, but I feel like I need to do something like this right now.”

For those who want to keep the party going Saturday night, the Dreamstate After Party hosted by the Phoria Events team at Ruby Skye. Local acts Alastair James, Joseph Martinez, Dmitri Reign and Jonny Atom will open the stage for the legendary Simon Patterson. Phoria’s headmaster, Niko Zografos, will close out the evening (or late morning depending on how hard you wanna party for THE LAST TRANCE SHOW AT RUBY SKYE!!!).

Get tickets here.

What started out as an answer to the cries of trance fans for a stage that represents their taste in euphoric music and psychedelic synths have metamorph into a festival phenomenon. Compared to big room house or bass music, trance is a sound that everyone can find the warmth of a community, a sense of home for those who have felt like outcasts. Its survival and current zeitgeist in electronic music is a testament its success.

PS, on the topic of Memorial Day, I want to pay my respect to Rober Miles. I have danced my fat Asian a$$ to “Children” many of times on the DDR machine, and I know the Trance Family will be feeling the lost of a legend.

Phoria Presents Ferry Corsten this SantaCon

14642385_1157816064264509_2252724456873650866_n

Hot from his Gouryella set at the SoCal Dreamstate, Ferry Corsten will be bringing the holiday warmth from The Dream Stage to the cold San Francisco night this Friday. Many trance fans will need some uplifting trance before the chaos of S.F. SantaCon, an annual event where a bunch of loose Santas drunkenly roam the holiday streets of The City. Of course this event isn’t related to red coats and limp Santahats, but this is still an event to attend. With local support from Billy Horn and Jonny Atom, Phoria has a lovely evening waiting for you with aspiring talents and superstar DJs alike. So come, my friends, if you’re looking for a night to party, an evening of euphoric feelz or just a simple place for shelter on the eve of the Santa pandemonium this weekend. This is a great way to start off your December, with a healthy helping of Trance from our Phoria family to yours.

Super8 & Tab + Jerome Isma-Ae Nov. 5th

This Saturday, Phoria presents Super8 & Tab + Jerome Isma-Ae at Ruby Skye with local support by Erika K and Alastair James. The Finnish duo Super8 & Tab will be joining us fresh from their adventures on the Groove Cruise Cabo. Their hit “NINO” has been rocking ASOT listeners since its release and it was sure tune that rocked the boat. Jerome Isma-Ae is no stranger to the Phoria community as he will be coming in dark and HOT! this Saturday night. The German man turned heads and gave the world a pulsing remix of Orkidea’s “NANA.” His recent collaboration with Alastor, “Reflection,” also reached the number 3 spot. The combination of progressive sounds and uplifting trance seems fitting for the weekend after Halloween as we transition into a more thankful holiday. Make sure you catch both of them once you neatly tuck away your costumes, or wear ’em again for this night, either or.

All of this Years Phoria Radio

Happy Holidays everyone!!!

The end of 2015 only has a few hours left before we cheerfully throw on our party hats and stubble into 2016. This has been a great year for trance with its rebirth and popularity from fans old and new. Aside from the whole genre surge to mainstream success, San Francisco gained a new team of trance enthusiast who are dedicated to bring some of the best to the stages of The City.

Starting from just a dream by Niko Zografos, Phoria was birth and sprouted a family of dedicated people that are still working diligently to achieve greatness in the name of trance. With the emergence of a promotion team, Phoria created a monthly radio show, premiering the first Sunday of every month, to feature and showcase current hits and local favorites.

Just in case you missed Phoria Radio’s broadcast, we have compiled all of the episodes here for you to stream at your leisure. Enjoy it and listen to the evolution of an ageless electronic music genre all on one page. And don’t forget to catch a NEW episode of P.R. this Sunday, at noon, on di.fm.

As an added bonus, we have also included Niko’s End of Year Countdown set. What a better way to ring in your new year with so much amazing, euphoric, hard hitting trance to submerge yourself in.

Hoping that you fans out there have a good and safe holidays, Phoria Team.

#PHORIAdark with Christopher Lawrence + Neelix!

12032165_927984190581032_6260108185983668903_n

It has been some time since Phoria brought everyone some of the best in trance. So we return this weekend with a BANG! We’re also returning from our hiatus with the dark side of the force . . . Opps, we mean trance. It’s with great pleasure that we present Neelix and Christopher Lawrence this Friday, November 20th!

German native Neelix began to produce music in 1998 and finally released his first track in 2002 titled “The Fourth”. Over time,  he has accumulated an arsenal of productions with a multitude of singles on different labels. Although his sound might steer towards progressive house from time to time, it’s still no short from a psychedelic melody. With use of hypnotizing beats and eerie sounds bites from an old sci-fi movie, his set is unique to his own world. Be prepared.

Christopher Lawrence is no stranger to the world of psy-trance.  The winner of IDMA’s “Best American DJ” in 2011, Lawrence will step into Ruby Skye to induce Phoria with the darker side of trance. The American DJ is known to submerge attending fans with trance that he’s crafted with industrial  techno. If you’re not afraid of quick heavy beats and robot noise, then come on Friday to spend a night with Christopher Lawrence.

Lawrence will also be headlining Dreamstate in San Francisco, on January of 2016, alongside John 00 Fleming! If you can’t wait till Dreamstate to see CL, then don’t miss out on the chance to intimately see Christopher Lawrence at Ruby Skye, alongside the one and only Neelix! If you dare, of course.

Both scary DJs will be supported by sets from Jonny Atom, Billy Horn, & Iridescent!!!

Beyond Wonderland Bay Area 2015

Photo Taken by T Blaze Photography

Making the journey back up to the Bay Area, Beyond Wonderland welcomes you into the labyrinth of mystery, magic, and excitement! Beyond Wonderland Bay Area has definitely stepped up its production game; if any of you attended their first Bay Area event in 2012 you’d know what I’m talking about: the two main stages were 2 large white tents and a few rides here and there in the Oakland Colosseum parking lot. Compared to other Insomniac events it seemed to just be a test run. Nowadays we’re expecting a bigger and badder setup now that we Bay Areans have been huge supporters of Insomniac events! We can expect to see the Hookah-Smoking caterpillar making his appearance at the main stage or hopefully a wonderful new design? Crossing our fingers for equally stunning productions for the smaller stages as well!

Who can possibly forget about the lineup? It’s pretty much set for EVERYONE to enjoy the music with trance artists Simon Patterson and Jordan Suckly, for the harder crowd with Brillz and Showtek, and house for those who just want to have a good time with Arty and Audien. It’s a diverse lineup that will have you dancing your way through the crowd no matter what!
11891046_966596960070394_9066978451013740726_nBut most importantly, you won’t want to be missing out on missing some other amazing headliners: YOU! Make new friends and memories at this year’s Beyond Wonderland Bay Area, because you’re guaranteed with good vibes only ❤

You’ll never know what Insomniac will bring to the table and the only way to know is to join in on the fun! So make your way down the rabbit hole and buy your tickets for Beyond Wonderland Bay Area before they sell out! Hope to see everyone there!

11905399_911069338939184_5212020130947726507_n

Killing every show that he’s headlined at Ruby Skye, Ilan Bluestone makes his way back to San Francisco to once again blow our minds! With association with Adrenalin Room, Bluestone is making his way back to Ruby Skye next Labor Day Weekend on September 5th as part of the Anjunabeats Worldwide ’05 Tour; so make sure you buy your tickets in time before you’re stuck at home sitting in front of the TV regretting it! Besides, it’s a three day weekend so there’s no excuse to why you shouldn’t be trancing it out on a Saturday night with your favorite Phorians 🙂

Don’t know enough about Ilan? Well, he’s a an Anjunabeats signed, London-based producer inspired by Above and Beyond, Arty, and Swedish House Mafia and has worked with the likes of Maor Levi, Jerome Isma-Ae, and BT. Maybe you’ll get to hear this song live, but you’ll never know unless you buy your ticket!

Future Sounds of Egypt in San Jose Review

11855698_10153532181884931_6924558283779384284_n

Blurr is a San Francisco trance DJ and a Phoria team-member

By David Lewis (aka Blurr)

Some of you have been wondering what I was going to say about last weekend. Only one word could describe it: EPIC.

Its been forever since I wanted to write a review, and thought last weekend would be fitting. Also had to download all the photos and videos from my phone took a while =)

The amount of awesomeness started on Friday, and ended on Sunday morning. I had known Thrillseekers would be in town, but didn’t know he would have the chance to hang out with us for the entire FSOE show. It was good to hang out with him both the night before, and then the night after with all of us attending. Starting off with Roger Shah and Thrillseekers at Phoria was a great idea.

I had never attended an event here at the San Jose Civic and was very pleased. Accommodations, FREE water in the smoking areas, Full Bar, Lots of space to move, mingle and walk around, and full A/C for the venue. The seats in this place were not crappy plastic, but plush foam. Way different than other venues with stadium seating. Aside from parking in a garage so my car would be safe, there was parking all around the venue.

For once, some of us who were hungry got to eat without breaking the bank. I think the price of a hot dog, drink and some nachos cost a total of like 12 bucks.

The Stage array was spectacular with a full on Triangle with Lasers, smoke, fog and HUGE LED screen. Some attendees were saying there was not enough sound, while others say there was too much. Those who were directly in the middle of the room for the night probably got to hear the best sound, I stayed out there for a few hours before slipping backstage to hang out for the rest of the evening.

Giuseppe Ottaviani & Solarstone (Pure NRG)

Backstage was pretty dope. Got to hang out with Djs and Producers I have not seen in ages that we had booked in the past and are now superstars in their own rights. Bjorn Akkeson, John O’callaghan, Sied Van Riel, Jordan Suckley, Giuseppe Ottaviani, John O’Callaghan, Artic Moon, and of course, Aly & Fila.  I also got to catch up with Trancefamily LA co-founder Jeff Su. I met Jeff in the past but like all my past adventures cant put my finger on where. Either way we got some time to chat and experience the event together =)

Hats off to Niko Zografos and Justin Duke (Mitka). It took us some time to get into the venue, but it was worth the wait. I am really glad I came early to capture you guys, and there are videos and photos I’ll upload, a lot of them here in this post.

HUGE thank you to Midnight events, Benjamin Rosenberg and FSOE. Thank you for your hospitality and for throwing such an awesome event for all of us to experience. I look forward to the next one and was pretty happy it was only 15 minutes away from my house for a change.

Aside from the Talking Voices, The MUSIC still connects us. It was really GREAT to hangout, see you, and be a part of the weekend with all of ya. Its a Blast to call all of ya my friends =)  Videos will be posted soon as well, stay tuned.

See all of you for Bryan Kearny, Jorn Van Deynhoven, Photographer, me & Emerge on August 14th!
